Are you afraid of going shopping for maternity clothes because you’re afraid that all you’ll be able to choose from are floral sacks? Those days are gone, and there are lots of options available that can be both flattering and comfortable. Here’s a guide to getting comfy, attractive clothes while you’re waiting for baby. Shopping for maternity wear can be practical and even fun.

Now that you’ve become pregnant, you don’t want to worry too much about your wardrobe. But there are a lot of changes taking place, so you’ll still want to look and feel your best, even while they’re going on. You can expect to gain between twenty-five and thirty-five pounds, with most of that showing up toward the end of the first trimester. You’ll gain weight from the baby, the expansion of your uterus, breast growth, and a bunch of other places.

Plus, you can expect your weight to shift. You might even end up wearing a larger shoe size, as strange as that sounds. The right maternity clothes can help you keep from feeling frumpy, and they’ll adjust to the needs of your body as changes take place. Ideally, good maternity wear will adjust as you slim back down and will double as clothing for nursing. Fortunately, there are plenty of mix and match options you can choose to wear at any time of day. A few good pieces can do the work of a huge number of less appropriate ones. Take a look at these tips.

As soon as you start feeling a little uncomfortable in your old clothes, start looking at your maternity wardrobe. You don’t want to be shopping at the last minute, and the sooner you start planning, the more you’ll get out of your maternity wardrobe. Remember that maternity wear sizes follow your pre-pregnancy size, so a normal size ten or twelve would probably take the same or a medium in maternity clothing.

Of course, you need to buy with room to grow, and stick to the right underthings, too. Choose pregnancy underwear and bras for greater comfort, and the right amount of support while you’re still growing. It doesn’t matter what the top layer is if you’re not wearing the right foundation, after all. You can stick to your favorite styles, too. Bikini underwear is still available for women who are pregnant.

Look for solids or patterns that will mix and match to stretch your maternity wardrobe budget, while avoiding clothes that will draw a lot of attention to your middle. Dark clothes are great if you want to look leaner, but don’t feel confined to black and navy if they’re not you’re thing. Stick to lighter weights than usual, however, since many pregnant women feel hot – even in the winter.

There are lots of trendy, comfy styles that’ll let you feel like yourself and stick to your regular looks. The days when new mums had to feel like they were running around in their nightgowns are long past, and that’s a great thing. Check out some of the great options currently on the market, and start your maternity wardrobe soon!

PHOENIX (April 8, 2009) – Thanks to The Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation, more than 130 seriously ill children and family members had the chance Saturday to experience a “Best in the West Carnival” at MacDonald’s Ranch in Scottsdale. The Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation sponsored the Great EscapeTM, a Starlight Children’s Foundation program designed to give families with seriously ill children a chance to have some fun and recharge outside of the hospital environment, and meet others who are facing similar challenges.

Volunteers from The Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation and Nouveau Riche Corporation came from all over the United States to help with the event. Attendees participated in hayrides, square dancing, face painting, caricature drawings, pony rides along scenic trails (a first time for many children), races and games (including lasso roping, penny pitching, cowboy hat toss and stick-horse racing). The children were also entertained with live performances by Maricopa Mike, the magician; a strolling cowboy singer; and Earl Grey, the trick pony. In addition, the group enjoyed a cowboy cookout, snow cones and cotton candy.

“The daily emotional and financial struggles that come with caring for a sick child are often so overwhelming that the thought of leaving the house for a family event seems impossible,” says Jo Ann Yeo, community development officer for Starlight Children’s Foundation. “But Starlight understands what families go through when a child is sick, and the importance of breaking the cycle of depression and loneliness. With the help of sponsors like The Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation, we can provide these families with the chance to have fun together away from the hospital, so they can relax, regroup and return home with a renewed sense of strength and hope.”

“Working with Starlight Children’s Foundation has proven to be a wonderful way of reaching beyond our known limits of compassion and fulfilling children’s dreams of hope,” said Jim Piccolo, co-founder and chief executive officer of The Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation (named after his father) and Nouveau Riche Corporation. “It’s a privilege to work with Starlight Children’s Foundation and we are proud to partner with them on this event.”

Jim Piccolo founded the Frank Edward Piccolo Foundation in 2007, with the aspiration to join forces with other philanthropists who share a desire to make an impact in the community; supporting foundations and helping them meet their goals. The Foundation’s mission is to actively serve the family structure by raising and distributing funds in order to enhance the quality of life for families, or individual family members, so they may have a better today and a brighter future. Its primary focus is “youth” volunteerism and volunteer opportunities are continuously posted, designed to teach youth about social responsibility and the power of teamwork while encouraging action.

Starlight Children’s FoundationTM was founded in 1983 to help seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities. Starlight’s programs have been proven to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect families facing similar challenges so that no one feels alone. Last year, Starlight Children’s Foundation Arizona touched the lives of more than 50,000 children and their families statewide.
